Healing for orphans and vulnerable children
Nepal remains one of the poorest countries in the world with a GNI per capita of less than $2 a day. The earthquakes in 2015 exacerbated levels of poverty and vulnerability, with many families losing homes, loved ones including parents and guardians, and livelihoods.
Human trafficking continues to be a problem in Nepal. Within the country, forced labor occurs in brick kilns, mines, domestic work, and the entertainment industry. Outside the country, Nepalis are trafficked to India and the Middle East for forced labor or sex work.
Many vulnerable communities suffer from emotional trauma and stress brought about by impoverished backgrounds, natural disaster, broken families, gender based violence, and abuse. If not addressed, trauma can negatively impact one's ability to concentrate, learn, develop healthy social relationships and thrive as self-sustainable individual.
