Building confident futures for HIV affected orphans & vulnerable children
The global AIDS crisis has ravaged sub-Saharan Africa claiming an estimated 26.5 million lives since 1990 (UNAIDS, 2014) - nearly 4 times the entire population of the Bay Area. Nearly 17 million children have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS worldwide - 90% in sub-Saharan Africa alone (UNAIDS, 2014).
UNICEF advises international support of community-based responses to the AIDS crisis, including "strengthening young people's life and survival skills" (2003).
