We work with local changemakers who are already on the ground doing good things for their communities every day in the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya and South Africa. We strengthen and complement our partners' work, maximizing the impact they have on their beneficiaries, providing a pathway for dignity, confidence, and independence.
Our projects cover a range of areas - from nutritious food, clean water, and health services, to safe and stable infrastructures, education, psychosocial support and vocational training.
It's not about "throwing money at a cause." And, it's not about giving handouts.
It's about investing in dignity - for those we're helping and for ourselves. It's about empowering grassroots changemakers. It's about a commitment to our shared humanity. And, being part of a movement that will enrich our lives.
eBay Foundation awards grant for trauma healing work in the Congo
...thanks to a nomination by the eBay GIVE Team in Switzerland
Since 2009, our own Vice President and Co-Founder, Elayne Doughty, MA, MFT has been working with local trainers to help heal traumas endured by survivors of sexual torture in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Gracias Foundation was recently awarded a $7,000 grant by the eBay Foundation to continue Elayne's capacity building program called Safe Embrace Trauma Healing (SETH) at the City of Joy - a healing facility for sexual violence survivors, created by Eve Ensler's V-Day Foundation in cooperation with UNICEF and the Panzi Foundation.
Join the adventure of a lifetime: climb Mt. Kenya in January 2013
...and help build a new home for orphans rescued from Nairobi slums
* Hike up 4985m over 5 days to the 2nd tallest peak in Africa (1:2 guide to hiker ratio)
* Visit Maisha orphanage and join in a celebration party with the Maisha kids
Registration ends on Oct. 31st - don't miss out!
Maisha is home to 22 orphans and 4 caretakers
near Nairobi. Kids get nutritious food, clean water, education and love. Currently, the kids squeeze together in a single family home with 1 bathroom. They desperately need a new, safer and more stable home with enough space to separate boys, girls, little ones and young adults.
Amy and Andy will be in Kenya next year - to cheer on all the hikers and help out at the Maisha house. We hope to see YOU there!
Support Debbie as she races 212 km for orphans in Ethiopia
...in a 7-day challenge up 12,500m in Nepal
This November, our dear friend and ultra-marathoner, Debbie Brupbacher, is taking part in the Manaslu trail race in Nepal, with a goal to raise $5,000 to bring life-saving food, clean water and health services, education, life skills, and most importantly, a future to orphans and vulnerable children in Ethiopia.
The Gracias Foundation is so grateful to Debbie for her passion, dedication and support. She is an inspiration to us all!
